Born in Bataan province, fashion designer ... Oliver Tolentino makes me proud to be Filipino. His collection will inspire every woman. He makes me get that feeling of resentment that women have so many choices, or looks, than men do. Gorgeous and luxurious, with an edge. Creative cuts and patterns. Colour pallets that makes you smile and presents a necessary collection. |
In less than 2 years after expanding to the United States, Oliver Tolentino has garnered much international attention. From the moment he opened his Melrose Avenue boutique in Los Angeles, Hollywood and the fashion world have taken note. His creations have been featured at the Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmys, Grammys, American Billboard Awards, and on “America’s Next Top Model.”
In his first year in America, Oliver showed at Downtown LA Fashion Week, was selected for the OSCARS® Designer Challenge, exclusively represented his country with a creation at the United Nations in Switzerland, Milan, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and dressed Hollywood celebrities. In its Fall 2010 issue, Beverly Hills Lifestyle magazine featured Oliver’s gown shot at the Tower of David in the Holy Land and Serendipity magazine used his gown for its inaugural cover.
In his second year in L.A., Oliver won the “2011 Sustainable Eco Fashion Award” in the Bahamas, was selected the “2011 Featured Designer” at Fashion Week El Paseo in Palm Springs, was chosen the “2011 Featured Designer” for Rags2Riches, represented the Philippines at EcoChic Kong Kong and United Colors of Fashion in New York, had dresses featured on “America’s Next Top Model (Cycle 17),” and was selected as the “2011 MetroWear Icon,” one of the highest fashion honors in the Philippines.
Oliver started his career in Manila after moving from Bataan province where he grew up. Through hard work he secured a reputation in his native country for designing gowns for the elite, including the gown former First Lady Imelda Marcos wore to her recent 80th birthday gala celebration. Based on his design philosophy of classic looks, elegant styles, and attention to details, Oliver has been called the Philippines’ own Valentino. Oliver loves to use vibrant colors and prints, often mixing them to produce dynamic creations.
In July 2009, Oliver proudly became the first ever Philippines-based fashion designer to expand into the United States when he opened his West Hollywood boutique.
